Back Yard Photographer – Mr. Robin

Robin in the flower bed

Robins, in my opinion, are one of the easiest back yard birds to photograph for several reasons:

  • Very little startles them
  • They have personalities – watch them in the bird bath or around other birds.
  • Their colors stay consistent but make for beautiful photos in all seasons.

When photographing these birds approach them slowly and do keep your distance. Even though they don’t startle easily, you still need to give them space and respect their territory. Because they don’t quickly fly off, there is time to take multiple shots and make adjustments between shots.

I have gotten more than one type of look from these birds. Some times the tilt of their head and the angle seems as if the bird is questioning why you are even there. More often I get the, “what are you looking at tilt”

What ARE you looking at?

As for their colors, the following picture is from a few weeks ago. The picture was taken on an over cast day.

Back Yard Photographer – House Finch

The finches must be getting used to me being in the yard with my camera. I was surprised how close I was able to get to the finch to get this photo. Hope you like it!!

Back Yard Photographer – Is this Spring?

In my part of the world we have gotten about five inches of snow and it is still coming down. Temps will be below freezing over night, so the roads will be questionable tomorrow. But after that, we are back to normal Spring weather. I might actually get flowers and a couple rose bushes planted this weekend! Here’s a few pictures from earlier today:

Back Yard Photographer – Geese by the River

While spending some time near a river, a couple geese caught my attention. Here’s a few photos from my time with them:

Hello Morning!!

Back Yard Photographer – Will he find the worm?

This Robin was very busy for quite some time hunting for worms. Here’s some photos of his attempts:

Looking for worms
Heard a worm
Listening intently for a worm
Pecking at ground to get worm
Hmph! Lost the worm.
The hunt continues.

Poor guy never did catch a worm while I watched him. But he sure kept trying!

Hope you liked the photos of the Robin!
